Open Enrollment for Many Medicaid Recipients Ends November 21st

Louisiana recently opened the enrollment period for Healthy Louisiana, the state's Medicaid managed care (formerly known as Bayou Health). During open enrollment, most Medicaid recipients who receive services from a managed care plan such as Aetna Better Health, Amerigroup Real Solutions, Amerihealth Caritas, Louisiana Healthcare Connections, or United Healthcare, can change their plan without having to give a reason.

If you are enrolled in a Healthy Louisiana plan and want to change your plan, you must do so before 6:00 p.m. on November 21, 2016. (See below for the exception for those who enrolled in a plan during the recent Medicaid Expansion.) After the November 21st deadline, you will only be able to change plans for certain reasons, such as not being able to obtain needed services through your current plan.

If you enrolled in a Healthy Louisiana plan during recent Medicaid Expansion, you should have received a letter with your deadline for changing plans. If you want to change your plan, you must do so before the deadline stated in your letter, or wait until the next open enrollment period in 2017.

If you want to keep your current Healthy Louisiana plan, you don't have to do anything.

There are 5 ways to change your Healthy Louisiana plan:

  • Online at http://www.myplan.healthy.la.gov.
  • Toll free at 1-855-229-6848.
  • By fax at 1-888-858-3875.
  • By mail using the Enrollment Form sent to you by Healthy Louisiana.
  • In person at your local Medicaid office. Call toll free at 1-888-342-6207 for your nearest location.

If you have problems accessing needed services through Healthy Louisiana, call the Advocacy Center of Louisiana at 1-800-960-7705.
