Melissa is a Friend of the Advocacy Center, volunteering in the New Orleans area.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am originally from Springfield, Louisiana, and moved around the South in my early adult life before settling in New Orleans a couple years ago. I currently work as the front office manager of a dental practice. I love all things New Orleans, especially Mardi Gras.
How did you become involved with the Advocacy Center of Louisiana?
I moved to New Orleans in 2015. The 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina really inspired me to want to do something for the community. I asked a friend of mine who works at the Advocacy Center of there were any volunteer opportunities, and the rest is history.
What do you do as an AC Volunteer?
Anything that is asked of me! I primarily help with mailings and special events.
Tell us about one of your favorite experiences as an AC Volunteer.
I really enjoyed helping with the Donor Appreciation Party. It was such a good feeling to hear the AC staff share their success stories.
Why do you enjoy volunteering at AC?
I enjoy being around like-minded people. I always look for forward to catching up with my fellow volunteers, both personally and advocacy-related. We have a lot of fun!
