The Advocacy Center of Louisiana is frustrated and disappointed that the City of New Orleans did not take the opportunity of the Nix Library renovation to make it accessible to all citizens of New Orleans.
"Serving the needs of People with Different Abilities should not be an afterthought. The library is a public service and should be accessible to those in the community it serves," says Kim Y. Jones, Executive Director of the Advocacy Center of Louisiana. "The City of New Orleans spent $320,000 to renovate the library and did not install a ramp or a lift to make the building wheelchair accessible. It is not the city's finest hour, and Mayor Landrieu needs to address this matter immediately. New Orleans can do better."
