AC Files Suit Against Amtrak for ADA Violations

The Advocacy Center of Louisiana and the Mid Minnesota Disability Law Center recently filed a federal suit in the Eastern District of Louisiana against the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) for violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Rehabilitation Act, and associated state law anti-discrimination claims.

Open Enrollment for Many Medicaid Recipients Ends November 21st

Louisiana recently opened the enrollment period for Healthy Louisiana, the state's Medicaid managed care (formerly known as Bayou Health). During open enrollment, most Medicaid recipients who receive services from a managed care plan such as Aetna Better Health, Amerigroup Real Solutions, Amerihealth Caritas, Louisiana Healthcare Connections, or United Healthcare, can change their plan without having to give a reason.

AC Seeks Mental Health Advocates for Council Membership

The Advocacy Center of Louisiana seeks three new members for its Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness (PAIMI) Council. The Council helps set priorities for AC's PAIMI program, communicates with staff regarding issues affecting people with mental illness, and works with staff to improve the lives of people with mental illness statewide.
