New Orleans and Metro Area Restaurant Accessibility Guide

Advocacy Center Restaurant Guide

In the summer of 2003, Advocacy Center staff and volunteers surveyed over 550 restaurants in the New Orleans area for basic elements of accessibility. The results of this survey were published in the 2004 Zagat's Restaurant Guide. A more detailed version of the survey can be found at the links below.

We have also broke survey down into four classification levels as well as a listing of restaurants that were unaccessible. These classifications and their links are below.

Restaurants are classified as follows:

Level 1:

Eateries that are sufficiently accessible to allow a person who uses a wheelchair or another mobility aid to enter.

Level 2:

Eateries that are sufficiently accessible to allow a person who uses a wheelchair or another mobility aid to enter and be seated easily at a table.

Level 3:

Eateries that are sufficiently accessible to allow a person who uses a wheelchair or another mobility aid to enter, be seated easily at a table, and use gender appropriate restroom facilities with little or no assistance.

Inaccessible:

Eateries that meet none of the accessibility criteria.

A designation of Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 does not necessarily mean that the restaurant has been found to comply with any or all aspects of the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines. Our surveys measured practical aspects of accessibility rather than exact adherence to accessibility standards. Through this project, the Advocacy Center has attempted to provide accurate information about each restaurant. However, it is likely that mistakes may have occurred. Please contact the Advocacy Center at zagat@advocacyla.org to report mistakes, problems, or suggestions for improvement.

The Advocacy Center would like to update this survey andexpand it to other cities in Louisiana and other types of public buildings in New Orleans. If you would like to make a donation to support this work, please contact us:
